It was the "uh oh something went wrong for the umpteenth time" that got on my nerves and ruined the plot for me. Telling the story through the different points themselves was fine. It seems like 5 different "uh oh, this happened and now I have to go do this before I can leave" happened just to pad it out. Take for example the part where you're having to take the portal for the second time to get back home. By the end I did sympathize a bit with the protagonist, but the game's biggest sin is that the plotline seems to drag on unnecessarily long. It was really annoying having to deal with being pregnant lady and rubbing the belly constantly. Spoilers: At first I really disliked the story for this game. Everything else seemed like it could be either brute forced or figured out well enough. I did get stuck on two parts that were admittedly "my bad" kind of moments. The game wasn't too much of a struggle for me. In retrospect the AI does feel like it can be understood a bit easier than it felt at first while playing, but being in the moment is a different feeling than watching from outside. It also didn't help that when I played the first part the developers hadn't patched out the sanity dropping way faster and making jumpscares happen like every 5 seconds. The AI in this game had me on my toes most of time. This game certainly had me scared more than the first game, since the first felt a lot more predictable in terms of AI.
I wasn't exactly thrilled to have to play the sequel right away, but after seeing mixed reviews on launch day I decided it was a good idea to go into the game with the mindset that this game was going to be a "journey". My friend got this game for me to play because I only just now beat Amnesia: The Dark Descent this year. I'll write throughout the year about the various games I play, and at the end of the year, I'll put them all together in big, organized lists. I plan to write about everything I beat or play a substantial amount of here. I've been really motivated to try and play lots of different games (mostly indies) and beat as many as I can. I thought I should write a brief paragraph explaining my goal with this journal.
